Shanella28 ::: Favorites 2007-11-19 15:01:14 Humans do not just respond to one local stimuli and our organization is more complex than ants. __________________________________________________
Shanella28 ::: Favorites 2007-11-19 14:59:17 yeah, just like an ant colony. the ant queen is not a status but merely a job to lay eggs and not one ant is controlled by another ant. now how do you suppose to implement this in a human organization? __________________________________________________
pyrrho314 ::: Favorites 2007-11-19 11:54:04 hierarchy does have a limitted role, sure, it's a command and control structure, some local parts of the network will use that and it's not really the same thing as thinking the whole system is a hierarchy. __________________________________________________
pyrrho314 ::: Favorites 2007-11-19 11:53:24 no, because when I am the leader, for example, I work "with" my team and am aware that I am a facilitator... I serve a purpose. In a distributed power structure people still have special roles, special powers. Maybe as a team lead I could get someone fired, but actually, they could get me fired too... but if the structure is "flat" there is no above and below... and the power one has is special, where in a hierarchy it's general. I can explain more if that's not clear. __________________________________________________
Shanella28 ::: Favorites 2007-11-19 11:22:10 somebody who stands out and "Leads". So, you'll have small archs rather than the bigger ones we have now.. but it still an arch. __________________________________________________
Shanella28 ::: Favorites 2007-11-19 11:20:26 You're right it depends on what kid of leaders you have in a flat organization. There's a big difference between a Boss and a Leader that's for sure. But wouldn't that still be hierarchy? __________________________________________________
pyrrho314 ::: Favorites 2007-11-19 04:43:07 depends how you define "leaders"... __________________________________________________
pyrrho314 ::: Favorites 2007-11-19 04:41:49 no I havn't, thank you. __________________________________________________
Shanella28 ::: Favorites 2007-11-18 21:37:38 Even flat organizations needs leaders. Nice shave, by the way. __________________________________________________
presocratic ::: Favorites 2007-11-17 17:29:14 interesting...you seem to be advocating a rhizomatic model...have you read "A Theory of Power" by Jeff Vail?...it's a concise and insightful look at some alternatives to hierarchical power structures...highly recommended.... __________________________________________________
pyrrho314 ::: Favorites 2007-11-17 16:59:39 didn't know that. Honestly, the roman arch is a great design, and there is really decent reasons to see the stability coming from such a structure and try to build a social system from it... and I bet it could be remade to a more positive metaphor if it were recast away from a self serving explanation for classism. __________________________________________________
gratex ::: Favorites 2007-11-17 16:45:10 I liked the arch analogy. Arabic arches have no keystone, heh. __________________________________________________
pyrrho314 ::: Favorites 2007-11-17 15:06:45 I have decided while I do not intend to convince anyone to change their stripes, that I would like to convince (hypothetically) every anarchist that hierarchy is the real opponent because it is a command and control structure, and how can "volunteerism" come from "command and control"? __________________________________________________
pyrrho314 ::: Favorites 2007-11-17 14:59:51 thought maybe you wouldn't notice __________________________________________________
Jihunn ::: Favorites 2007-11-17 12:41:33 WHAT THE F...... You shaved?????????????? __________________________________________________ |
