Finally. I just published a Newsweek excerpt of Kitty Dukakis' new book on my blog: www.thetroublewithspikol.com. It gives you more of an idea of what the treatment does.

How old were you then? I never got to that point, but it sounds like such a disaster. I remember pleading with my parents to take me out of the place but they refused, also. The psychiatrists never want to believe that they would hurt anyone, and the whole system is megafucked by what is essentially legalized scamming.

Dear Spikol, I don't know what happened to me but your story nearly made me faint... the story was so strong I started feeling really faint, I got up and then suddenly, i found i could no longer walk, or half see... I had to drag myself in order to get some sugar... MAN... thank you so much... you look as if you're doing great, by the way!!!

How and where (short-,long-term, working, (non)declarative.. etc) memories are stored in the brain are largely unknown. Hippocampal lesions result into problems of acquiring new memories.. Check the book by Kandell & Schwartz. I guess it makes no substantial difference where they apply the ECT electrodes on the scalp. Possibly they want to avoid damaging the Broca's & Wernike's areas (language and comprehension processing).

When I had ECT I forgot where anything in the house was, my children, my friends. The hospital closest to me with a psych ward has very high ECT usage, so docs around here won't look at possible problems with ECT. I also lost 12 IQ points, which really vexes me. Shame on these docs for not being willing to see problems!

WOW- I'm not sure what you had done but don't think it was ECT. no diapers here or mouth guard unless they put in when asleep. and brushing teeth no problem and being in a daze for days. NOT. yes headaches but very short and yes you get wheeled out your in a hosptal. not a walk in the park but what is.

wow, that was informing, and it didn't scare me like the other videos did.......that's why my parents never take me to a psychaiatrist, because they know me well enough to solve my internal problems and that pychology and psychaiatry are giant lumps of baloney.....

I'm a married man so I respectfully hug you *hugs* I am shocked about these barbaric treatments. There's got to be a better way.
